Mission October: Failed
162 games played by each of the 30 teams from the 2 circuits spread over 6.5 months. Each team is vying for a spot in the Fall Classic. It is known as Mission October. Playing baseball in October signifies you’re one step closer to the World Series and the ultimate series you can win that year. 8 teams in a battle royale to stay alive for one more game…one more series…a chance at the title of World Champions. It is where the tension is crowding the stadiums & every pitch is calculated and watched. This is what baseball is made for. This is where players are born and destroyed. How far will you go and how hard are you willing to work for it?
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ 2010 season ended at game 162 with no hopes of October games. It was a roller coaster ride of a season. 7-game win streaks to 6-game losing streaks. Record-breaking 170 strikeout-season to 5 homers in 5 games. Injured for weeks on end to coming back and having a .376 batting average and NL Player of the Week Honor. Quarrels, rumors, arguments, struggles, financial woes, divorce, speculation, boos, chants, cheers, grand slams, walk-offs, blown saves, saved games, manager leaving, new manager, retirement, you name it.
Though the Boys in Blue didn’t make it to October, they gave us all a hell of a year. I know I personally had one of the best seasons so far, just in game attendance itself. Attended 30+ home and away games, visited SD and Anaheim to cheer my boys on and met some amazing fans each with their own stories to share and teach. Got some baseballs signed and some memorabilia. Turned my niece into a die-hard and she’s only 2. The memories alone are worth so much because they happened all because of my love for the Dodgers.
When a team doesn’t make it to the playoffs, the saying goes, “There’s always next year.” You know, I’m tired of saying that, especially when just last year we were 2 wins away from the World Series. Some people may not like what I have to say, but I don’t advertise this blog to have an unbiased opinion. However, I know if you don’t like what I have to say, there’s is no need to have to argue any point with me. I respect everyone’s opinion, and we can agree to disagree
I just want to say, don’t settle for next year. I want to celebrate a World Series title and I want to do it LAST YEAR. Dodgers are well overdue for a trophy and people need to stop talking about next year. Next year is too long! I’m tired of waiting, but it seems like that is what the Dodgers fans will have to do…once again.
I will NOT discuss the McCourt divorce. It seems like there’s just too much to even try to begin talking about it. The ONLY thing I will say is this: Give up the team & allow the city of Los Angeles to become the owner. No good will come from the current ownership. Can Steinbrenner come back from the dead??
Farewell, Dodgers. I anxiously wait for May to come to see you train and April 1, 2011 for the home opener. It’s been a wild ride. Thank you for the memories. Thank you for making me fall in love. I’ve met amazing people who share the love for the Boys in Blue. I’ve met baseball enthusiasts and fanatics that share the same love for the game as I do. I spent long summer nights at the Ravine taking in the game and the sounds of the ballpark. I spent hours sitting in the living room with Vin’s soothing voice calling the games of the team we both adore. Those memories will definitely stay with me.
To all those that I’ve met through the love for this team, you guys are all amazing people! I hope to spend more time at the games with each and every one of you, from sitting in LFP to the Dugout Club, The Shortstop before and after games, flaming margaritas pre-season, blowing the airhorn in Anaheim whenever the boys scored, standing in line to see Loney from the window and to have Matt Kemp sign a ball, dressing up in 80′s gear, creaming the birthday boy with a cupcake to tanning in Loge, it was a great year. Let’s make sure to keep in touch, okay?
I will try to update in the off-season with any movements in staff or players. Again, follow me on twitter! Much love, my readers. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you in the Spring!

Friday Night Fireworks!
The storied rivalry dating back to when the Dodgers were in Brooklyn is again about to begin at 7pm tonight. Giants are once again in the Ravine to go up against our Boys in Blue. Good luck to them because we will need to win all three games to even have a chance in the NL Wild Card.
Now for my take on what has happened in the past week for the Dodgers. First, the Manny trade. I’m one to always say, “The past is the past,” and move on. I think that is what the fans should do with regards to Manny Ramirez leaving the Dodgers. He gave us great memories in 2008 & 2009. He brought back an energy to the stadium that was needed to revive the fans that had been losing hope of another WS in the near future. However, he is gone now. I’m not going to even argue the ejection. First pitch strike on an ump who has been squeezing his strike zone all night when the bases were loaded. Manny should have taken it and gotten back into focus of what he was put in the game for. He didn’t however. Nothing can be done now. Good luck to him and the White Sox organization & their fans.
McCourt Divorce trial proceedings. For all your news regarding this, follow @DodgerDivorce on Twitter for most up to date news. He’s sitting in court listening to all the ramblings going on. The numbers being thrown around are astronomical and just incredible to comprehend. His website is also a good source of information (linked here) He has been on the Fox 11 News & ESPN AM570 Good coverage.
Martin: According to Torre, will most likely not require surgery. I miss him, but Barajas 3 homers in 5 games is filling the hole
Rafael: Homered in Albuquerque last night and was activated tonight. He playing his usual and leading off in the lineup. Good luck Raffy! We’ve missed you.
Padilla: Also activated from the DL. How he will fit into the rotation is TBD.
Good luck to our boys and as always, Viva Los Dodgers!

Bye, Bye Manny?
Dodgertown is going crazy with the news of players that have been placed on waivers. Kuroda, Lilly, Manny. I’m hearing cheers and boos and crying and whining. Honestly, I don’t know how waivers really worked before. I figured it meant you waved bye! But Sherrill has been on waivers for a year now and he’s still pitching lol. This is an old article from 2004, but it gives you basic waiver rules: [linked here]
Basically, Dodgers are just basically putting some bait on the line JUST in case they’re out of playoff contention. I’m pretty sure it all depends on how Manny performs these last few days of August. We definitely have too many outfielders. It could be some sort of trick. Ned always has something up his sleeve! I don’t like that Kuroda and Lilly are on waivers. They’re still with the team, but they’ve done so well for us, why not just extend their contracts already? We KNOW we need pitching. I just don’t know what’s going to happen to this team next year =/
I know I said I would update 3x/week, but this week was mentally exhausting for me. HAHA I’m taking mental health, mentally exhausting…mental? haha? *crickets* LOL I think my three entries may be Fri-Sun, the days I have time to write. Again, follow me on Twitter for a more interactive experience! Much love guys. Always have hope. A WS can’t be too far away. What’s another 5 years, if we can build a dream team? Cubs have been waiting 100. Red Sox fans waited for a curse to be lifted! Why are we so impatient? I want a WS as bad as the next guy, but I also want it because we deserve it, not JUST because it’s been 22 years. So what? 22 years, 55 years, 100 years, are you going to stop being a Dodger fan? Are you going to go for another team? I love this team. I love this game. I’ll still go no matter what.
BTW, find me in my mini plan seats on Monday, RS section 25. In the My Town Tweet Up on Tuesday. I’ll be with my sister and niece both games =)
As always, Viva Los Dodgers!
Crazy Week for Crazy Dodgers
This past week has been full of ups and downs for the Dodgers and their fans alike. Dodgers left home for a road trip after taking 2 out of 3 from the Nats (of which I attended all games). Finished strong with a 2 wins in a row. They came in and raised the hopes of all those bleeding blue when Padilla’s soap bubble and the offense baffled the Philly hitters and fielders in a 15-9 blow out. Our big blue hearts were seizing with joy.
Then came Wednesday’s game where the offense was shut out 2-0. There’s a trend where the offense explodes one night and is absent the next (Think: August 4-5 at SD). Okay, so we shook it off. Then came yesterday. The Dodgers struck in the 1st and continue to strike all the way until the 8th. Then came the disastrous bullpen, which has not been that bad as lately (or is it that our starting pitching has gone deeper?) Regardless, after thinking we had a 9-2 win, 8 runs were given up in the 8th and 9th innings. Thanks to Casey, Sherril and Broxton. Most believe the season is over. This would be the team we would likely face before going to the WS and we can’t hold on to a 7-run lead against them. I was okay with giving up the season before the trade deadline, but Ned and the Dodgers just brought my hopes up and again, my heart bleeds blue in agony over yesterday’s loss. So, I will say, what happens happens, but I will just go to the games to enjoy some baseball and good times with the fans.
Before I move on though, did you know, that about 7 to 8 of the games eventually blown by Broxton since 2009 have been started by Kershaw? I think Kershaw should give Brox a good ol’ swift kick in the bum.
Raffy is placed on 15-day DL. They don’t want to risk losing him if they’re making a run for the playoffs. However, Jamey Carroll has just been a gem of a utility player (playing shortstop, 2nd and even left field!)
Matt Kemp’s Agent speaks with the media about the coaches treating him unfairly and wanting to ask for a trade, but then clarifies that Kemp doesn’t want to play anywhere else. Just more drama on top of what we already have to deal with (Blame Rihanna and the McCourts lmao)
Kuo has officially been name closer for the Dodgers. Hopefully this helps Broxton step it up! Kemp was recently benched for two games in Philly and has shown improvement when he came to pinch-hit (2-RBI single) and then again playing the day after with more RBI’s. We’re hoping the demotion of Broxton does the same thing.
With that, I’m off. Game already started! I’m not following it as closely (scorecard and radio). I’ll just catch it one my break. As always, win, loss, or disaster, I will always bleed blue. Until next year, bums. Viva Los Dodgers!

sOap bubble OOOOOoooo
I have to say that ever since the 2009 NLCS Game 1 vs. the Cardinals, Padilla has been one of my favorite pitchers to watch. He has such finesse on the mound and pitches so gracefully, I’m literally in awe anytime I watch him. I was introduced to his slow 52mph curve during that game.
Yesterday, Padilla threw 9 shutout innings (yes, that number is correct) in a 9-0 victory against 1st place NL rivals, Padres. He threw 4-5 slow curve balls, better known to the fans who listen to Vin Scully as “soap bubble” pitches. These babies go as slow at 50 mph on a good release. It has hitters confused like no other! They usually stare at it or swing away like it’s tee ball! Padilla not only helped on the mound, but also offensively. He scored an RBI single in the 7th to up the lead from 4-0 to 5-0. Offense exploded to tally on 4 more runs, including a 2-run homer by Dre himself. It as a beauty of a game. First 20,000 in attendance received a beach towel (mine was recovered by my mini-plan friend so don’t worry!)
I’m glad I got to see the boys do some work. This is the team everyone is hoping to see down the stretch, especially 7 games back of the Padres, who are known to choke in August, while the Dodger are known to go on a hot streak. Plenty of more baseball left! Hold on tight.
Tomorrow is a Dodger-filled day for me! James Loney signing in the AM. He is scheduled to only be there from 12pm-1pm. I’m planning on getting there at 7am for that. Then later that night, off to the Ravine for 80′s night and a Matt Kemp poster! Can’t wait. I’ve got my outfit all ready to go. I’ll be in LFP section 311 Row A with a crazy 80′s get-up. Make sure to stop by and say hello at either place! Would love to meet some of my readers
Another great weekend ahead. Remember, one game at a time! As always, Viva Los Dodgers!

Trade Deadline Madness!
With all the drama of “the Divorce” and having a Russian Scientist on the Dodgers’ payroll, most of us were uncertain of what kind of moves would be (or even could be) made before the deadline. Once again, Coletti surprised us with three moves that brought us a variety of players. We got an IF, OF, RHP (Reliever), and LHP (Starter). Please welcome your new Dodgers for the latter half of the 2010 season:

Scott Podsenik
.309 AVG, 5 HR, 45 RBI, 47 Runs, 31 SB
Ted Lilly
3-8 W-L, 3.69 ERA, 89 Strikes, 29 Walks
Ryan “The Riot” Theriot
.284 AVG, 1 HR, 21 RBI, 45 Runs, 16 SB
Octavio Dotel
2-2 W-L, 4.28 ERA, 41 relief innings with Pirates
What we lost:

Blake DeWitt
.270 AVG, 1 HR, 30 RBI, 29 Runs, 2 SB
5 Minor leaguers & James McDonald
I waited a couple of hours after the deadline was over to see if anything else had come up. Of course, I’m a little upset that they gave up an IF for an IF. We needed pitching. We had a 2B in DeWitt, but we also had a better utility in Carroll who could have covered the entire field (Bugs Bunny-style) including 2B. However, I could be mad and upset (which I let out all my frustrations to the Twitter community as the trade deadline updates were being released), but I figure, Ned Coletti is working with what little (and we mean little) resources he has available to him. DeWitt, I’m going to miss you, that’s for sure, but if these moves get us closer to playoff contention, good luck in Chicago! You’ll be welcomed back anytime, that’s a fact!
Currently, Dodgers are holding tight to a 1-0 league over their Bay Area long-time rivals, the SF Giants. They’re in DESPERATE need of this win after dropping 2/3 in SD and first of three in SF. Let’s go Dodgers!

W1
I’d like to say first off, congrats to Chad Billingsley for pitching a complete game, a statistic which is hardly used nowadays in the game of baseball, and for getting the W to end our 6-game losing streak. It was a long week and a half for Dodgers and their fans alike as tensions were high and bats were swung low. However, all good (in this case, bad) things come to an end eventually. The pendulum always swings back. The boomerang will return. (Insert figure of speech here). I always say Dodgers needed the W or needed that game, but this time, they really did need it. Morale was very low throughout the streak and unimaginable things were uttered (I heard a Dodger fan proclaim after the 8th when Sherrill gave up the lead, “I’m done with this f****** team). I was appalled. Win or lose, my heart is with this team and with this game. I know we’re due for a winning season, but to give up on them so quickly is saying that you weren’t a fan to begin with. I would like to ask all of you die-hard Dodger fans not to give up hope and though a WS this year would be good, I don’t think we’ll be able to get it with the team we have currently (barring some crazy trade that gets us a great hitter and a Cy Young…Hey, I can dream right?) At trade deadline (July 31st), I would want Ned to trade for the future. Meaning, I would want him to trade for someone that in 2011 or 2012 would help us out. Because a trade for this season, for us to just get to NLCS and lose, would just be a waste of time, emotions & money (of which we don’t have much). Agree or disagree, that is my opinion & I think for us to build an amazing team would be the best for us and all future dodger fans to come. I would rather have many more WS titles in the future (think Yankees) than one lowly one and nothing after (Angels).
Before you ask, yes I was at Tuesday’s game and I was emotionally drained. I didn’t know if I was up for blogging, let alone where to even begin the entry. I needed fresh air. So I got home, slept. I woke up the next morning and went about my business, tried not to talk to anyone about it. I was just one of those games where anything and everything happened. I took the loss and swallowed it. I am not a player. I am not a coach, manager or owner. I am definitely not an umpire. However, I am a Dodger fan and our kind are emotionally invested in this team, which in my opinion, can be the best or the worst investment you can make. This team can take you on a roller coaster of emotions. Money comes and goes, but your feelings stay with you no matter what. Regardless, I have a lot to say about the loss, but even after all my ranting and venting and cursing, the outcome will remain the same. I moved on from it. I was very upset and frustrated and mad and especially let down and disappointed. However, this sport gives us 162 games to play from April until September. It’s July! We have a lot of games to go. I kept it in perspective. After all, isn’t it, win or lose, Dodgers for life? I know it is for me.
Now, moving on to another game, I had a similar experience in my own team’s softball game tonight. Game was pretty much neck and neck every inning with each team taking the lead every time they came up to bat. We took the lead in the bottom of the 6th, 15-11 if I’m not mistaken. All we needed to do was hold them & we’d have our first Win. Of course, they load the bases and tie up the game. Then somehow they scored again. My left fielder, a competitive rabbit on the field and slugger at the plate, got a little too emotionally involved and took his frustrations out on the blue. Blue gave him a warning, but he failed to take it. It ended with our LF being ejected from the game (after it was over??) and suspended for next week’s game. Well, argue all you want, blue wasn’t going to change anything. I thought my team played quite well and even though the win would have been more satisfying, the game wasn’t going to change. What did I do? I handled the situation with the blue as a manager should have. I didn’t get mad. I did think it wasn’t necessary to eject him after the game. However, I now have a good OF and even **** to play rest of the season. Guess what? Life goes on. Baseball is a beautiful sport, but as we are here, yelling and crying over a tough loss, Dodgers, their players, coaches and owners, go on with their life. Next game looming, they’ll go out and warm up, take BP and stretch and give it their all (at least we hope they are). You can’t let the fact that you’re in a 6.0 game hole from 1st keep you from playing the game and playing it well.
Just remember, a 12 game deficit in September can be surpassed in a span of 10 days.
WIN or LOSE, I bleed Dodger Blue!
Lily
